Driving an excavator in VR is a fun way to learn how the machine works, in a safe environment. Place yourself within the excavator cabin using a VR headset and it feels as if you are really there, with life-size controls within reach of your seat. Turn off the safety switch (like a real excavator) and you are ready to move around the simulated environment and begin your digging speed test. Get to learn the controls and how to efficiently operate the excavator within this fail-friendly environment where you compete to lower your best time to fill the rock bin.

No need to request equipment time, disrupt production on site, or acquire a big bulky simulator, just use a portable VR headset and you can start to familiarise yourself with the controls. This experience was made to work on the Oculus Quest 2 and HTC Vive Focus 3 headsets.

The VR Excavator Digging Experience was made for the Built Environment School within the University of New South Wales (UNSW) for students to learn how to drive an excavator and appreciate the operating limitations of the equipment.
